On one hand, it’s one of the prime fictional works on seafaring (in the broadest sense), if not the biggest one of all. I know not whether Oda is acquainted with Herman Melville’s work “Moby-Dick or, The Whale”. My thoughts as written on this piece focus on three points: I do not know if Oda ever got to talk about it on an SBS or elsewhere but I think a lot about him naming Whitebeard’s flagship as “Moby Dick”.
